Throwing together a spring preview not at the last minute, or rather not at all in most situations is not unusual. So with the help of Chartfag’s spring anime chart, here’s just another spring preview. I’ve decided to try to write about all of them so get your tl;dr on in the comments.
Senko no Night Raid – A-1 Pictures involved in the production of this which makes me think they should have inappropriately recycled their K-On! character designs for this one. Set in China before the war, I have my doubts as to whether this will be a serious period show. I may not even bother watching this one to be honest.
Iron Man – Marvel comics title…brought over and adapted for a Japanese audience. Well it can’t be any worse than that Spider-Man tokusatsu show from the 1978 (intro here). I don’t think I’ll be watching any of this either.
Yojo-han Shinwa Taikei – This one at least looks interesting for me. Something about nameless characters appeals to me. I’ll probably catch at least an episode or 2 of this.
Arakawa Under the Bridge – SHAFT are making this one and based on the last several series they have done, I will probably give this a miss unless the reviews in May or June make it seem good. Who knows, maybe they will not give this the usual SHAFT treatment.
RAINBOW – Nisha Rokubo no Shichinin – This looks like a pretty simple examination of life after imprisonment. What I’ve read of opinions about the original manga make it seem like this is horribly depressing. Things are actually looking up for the season now, so I will probably watch this casually.
House of Five Leaves – I will probably give this one my typical miss because of the setting, though I could revisit that.
Heroman – Holy crap. Giant robots. Stan Lee’s involved in this and the setting is in America. Of course, it happens to be the West Coast since even Japan wants to further contribute to the endemic coastal bias. I probably won’t end up seeing this.
Ookiku Furikabutte Season 2 – Never caught the first season though I think it would actually be perfect for my taste. If I ever do get a version I can actually watch, then I would get around to watching the 2nd season.
Angel Beats – I bet if Key wasn’t behind this I wouldn’t even bother to acknowledge its existence since the synopsis seems so plain. Anyway, I’ll probably watch a few episodes before dropping this.
Ichiban Ushiro no Dai Maou – This looks like someone went at the classic ecchi school comedy checklist and checked most of the tropes. Maybe I’ll just go back and rewatch Maburaho instead. Check that, I’ll probably end up watching several episodes of this until the main character’s harem gets inexplicably large…2 episodes.
Working! – The first episode of this is out apparently, so I’ll give that a watch before seeing if I bother to continue next month.
Giant Killing – With a blog name like Lower Mid-Table, I basically have to episode blog this, so I will. It’s the story of a small team trying to fight relegation and reach the promised land of lower mid-table. The manager is apparently inspired by The Special One, though he’s never had to deal with a relegation battle, or not contending for championships anyway.
Hetalia Axis Powers Season 3 – Mocking national stereotypes can be the comedic equivalent of kicking a puppy. I fell way behind in the 2nd season, but fortunately it’s possible to blow through a whole season in like an hour. Finding the motivation is a separate issue.
Ring ni Kakero Shadow – Well the plot seems to be unintentional comedic gold. I didn’t catch any of the prequels so I will give this a miss.
Major Sixth Season – Goro isn’t in Cooperstown yet by this season? I may just have to wait until Major Season 27 before I get to see his awkward acceptance speech or he’s banned from baseball in a performance-enhancing drug and betting scandal.
B Gata H Kei – In the wake of the whole Dance in the Vampire Bund issue, I wonder what the odds are of anyone picking up this show where a girl aspires to become the official high school bike. The humor in this better be damn good to justify the fact I will watch every episode.
Kaichou wa Maid-sama! – Almost went through with no exclamation marks for titles. Anyway, I really don’t see how this plot works. The protagonist works at a maid café…and that’s it? I’ll watch an episode of this, but it’s likely to be a quick drop.
Hakuouki: Shinsengumi Kitan – That thing I said about not watching shows set in this time period also carries over to this.
Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitte Iru – I actually like that title, though I doubt I have the time for this.
D.C. ~Da Capo~ Ext – More Da Capo? Really? Sure I’ve never bothered to watch any of it, but is there any great yearning by the masses for yet more Da Capo. If there is I’ll just shut up now.
K-ON!! – I’m not afraid to admit I liked the first season of this. This second season will probably just be more of the same, which is exactly what I am afraid of. I’ll watch in anticipation of enjoying it more though.
Mayoi Neko Overrun! – If Omamori Himari wasn’t completely forgettable I’d have high hopes, or rather no expectation of sucking, going in. Likely 1 episode drop here.
Kiss x Sis – It looks like a questionable, sexually-charged, overt incest anime, but it’s much more than that. It’s a questionable, sexually-charge, overt incest with added questionable harem anime. I’ll admit I’m a sucker for this, so I’ll be gripped as I watch Keita endure the advances of every woman he comes across.
Ikkitousen: Xtreme Xecutor – So even anime has finally gotten around to embracing misspelling words in a title to start with X? About 15 years too late I’d say. I haven’t seen any Ikkitousen, so I will not start now.
Shin Koihime†Musou Otome Tairan – Haven’t seen any of the previous series, so I will miss this as well.
The last row seems to be pointless product tie-ins that I wouldn’t have watched anyway. Which brings me to 5 I will definitely watch, a few more I could go on to finish, and a bunch I really shouldn’t bother watching. Looks like just another spring even with significantly fewer titles than normal.
