The Bad Spring 2015 Anime Season Preview

The middle girl has a broken arm.

Triage X

Genres: Action, Filth
Studio: Xebec
Director: Takami Akio/Kato Takao
Lazy Plot Synopsis: A group of anatomically impossible nurses decide to be vigilantes at night.
What I Knew About This Before I Did Research: Why are shows like this still being made? Why?
What I Think of It After Research: There’s 2 directors on this, which means this should also be a clusterfuck of ideas in addition to the terrible ideas behind even creating this. This hits all the boxes for bad social commentary, terrible character designs and causing me to question why I even watch this stuff sometimes. I bet That Company licenses it because they are pieces of shit.

Urawa no Usagi-chan

Genres: Anime Tourism
Studio: Harappa
Director: Ishibashi Mitsuyuki
Lazy Plot Synopsis: Some sort of cute girls doing cute things around Saitama.
What I Knew About This Before I Did Research: This feels more like a scam than an actual anime production.
What I Think of It After Research: Why not just invent a production company and go out to some city that has some sort of problems and needs a tourism boost? Spend only a small amount of the money actually making the thing and take the rest of the city’s money when the show bombs. It’s the perfect plan at least until it was first done, like decades ago.

Uta no☆Prince-sama Maji Love Revolutions

Genres: Comedy, Shoujo, Harem, Romance
Studio: A-1 Pictures
Director: Hoshino Makoto
Lazy Plot Synopsis: It’s more Utapri, what more could anyone who is a fan of the franchise want?
What I Knew About This Before I Did Research: I haven’t watched any of this before, but I hold absolutely no grudge over anyone who enjoys this show. I haven’t heard of anyone who watches this that hates it. It might be the sparkles.
What I Think of It After Research: There’s a new director for this third season of the show. They’ve also dropped the thousands of percent for multiple love revolutions in the title. Lookout Aquarion EVOL. It should really be much more of the same harem action and shipping that the viewers enjoy.

Vampire Holmes

Genres: Mystery, Supernatural
Studio: N/A
Director: N/A
Lazy Plot Synopsis: It’s Sherlock Holmes only with vampires being the criminals.
What I Knew About This Before I Did Research: It’s a smartphone game that doesn’t involve collecting UR and SR cards or leveling up your idols, which is a surprise because this is somehow popular enough to be adapted.
What I Think of It After Research: The character of Sherlock Holmes is public domain in the US now which means that anyone can get paid to write Sherlock Holmes stories now. Yeah, I don’t have much more to add on this particular short series, only that it is perfectly legal for the creators to have Holmes fight vampires or to make him into a vampire if they so desire.

That's surprisingly adorable.

Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru. Zoku

Genres: Comedy, Romance
Studio: Feel
Director: Oikawa Kei
Lazy Plot Synopsis: Hachiman is a high school boy who lives against the grain and ends up alone. After being forced to be part of a Public Service club, his life improved as he grew closer to other people. This second season just amps that up further.
What I Knew About This Before I Did Research: I wasn’t particularly high on Oregairu the first time I watched it. I thought Hachiman was way too smart for his own good and that in real life Yui and Yukino wouldn’t care about him at all. Plus Hiratsuka-sensei is best girl.
What I Think of It After Research: The director of Outbreak Company is now in charge of this franchise. It’s also moved over to Feel so there’s actually an animation budget for the show this time so it won’t look as much like ass as the first season. I’m quite looking forward to seeing what they can do in this second season. I haven’t read the light novel translations, but I’m told it gets really good.

Yamada-kun to Nana-nin no Majo

Genres: Harem, Comedy, Supernatural
Studio: Liden Films
Director: Takuno Seiki
Lazy Plot Synopsis: Ryu is a bored high school student who looks like a delinquent. He runs into a girl named Urara one day and ends up swapping bodies with her. As soon as he figures out why, he gets involved in the strange world of witches at the school.
What I Knew About This Before I Did Research: I read the manga of this for a while and it sort of ran out of ideas quickly since they needed to keep the thing going for as long as possible. The first bits are good, but it should have wrapped up sooner. Financial security for a mangaka means that hardly any story will end on their own terms, so maybe someone should give them enough money to finish this off then let them work on a new story.
What I Think of It After Research: I think in 13 episodes this show can work. I just worry that multiple seasons will be made and people will just be pissed off that they keep introducing new characters and no time seems to pass because they would have graduated and lost their powers by then. You will also get sick to death of the amount of times kissing gets brought up with shocked expressions as that is how Ryu uses his ability.

  1. I am actually quite interested in how Arslan Senki will turn out, since it was originally written by Tanaka Yoshiki, of Legend of Galactic Heroes fame.

  2. I read them, these posts that is. Very informative. Thanks, Emperor.

What are you going to watch, if anything at all?
